The hilarious pet cam footage showing how a Labrador managed to escape her crate in the early hours of the morning has gone viral online.

A dog owner was stunned when their black Labrador, named Minerva, climbed into the bed at five am instead of sleeping soundly in her crate. The young pup gets shut in her crate all night as her owner explained that she’s “still a baby” and has a way to go before she’s trusted to sleep outside.

If Minerva was left out with the other dogs, the owner joked that she “won’t make good decisions.”

However, on this occasion, Minerva managed to open the crate accidentally and went for a wander instead. The owner was so baffled by her unexpected appearance in the bed, they immediately checked the pet cam to see how Minerva got out.

The pet cam footage shows the moment Minerva stretched her paws out and accidentally opened the crate door. She wasn’t too sure what to do when she realized the door was open, but after 15 minutes of deliberating, she decided it was “time to investigate.”

The owner couldn’t resist sharing the pet cam footage on TikTok (@chroniccowpoke), and internet users can’t get enough. In just a matter of days, the clip has gone viral with over 4.2 million views and 542,400 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.

During her escapades, Minerva also managed to find a rogue sock on the floor and didn’t hesitate to collect it. Cue the “happy labby wiggles” with her new toy successfully obtained.

After being rudely awoken by Minerva just before five in the morning, the owner returned the dog to her crate and made sure the gate was closed properly. They couldn’t be mad with the puppy however, as they saw that her “escape was accidental.”

In fact, the owner was rather impressed that the Labrador managed to stay inside her crate for as long as she did when the gate was open.

While many social media users questioned why Minerva has to sleep in a crate, the owner explained that the puppy is still in training and has some progress to make. Indeed, crate training is recommended by the American Kennel Club (AKC) as well as many vets and breeders.

The AKC highlights that crate training is essential when puppies are still being housebroken as they learn to hold their bladders since they don’t like to soil their sleeping quarters. Having an enclosed space also allows the dog a safe space to relax and unwind, knowing it’s just for them. Not to mention, it’s also a vital tool to prevent mischievous puppies from causing havoc and potential injury around the house.

Internet users can’t get enough of Minerva’s escape tactic, leading to more than 1,000 comments on the viral TikTok video.

One comment reads: “Master has given labby a sock and labby is freeeeee!”

Another person replied: “If my pup accidentally did that, it would for sure become a nightly occurrence.”

Another TikTok user wrote: “The sock wiggles took me straight out.”

While one commenter added: “The stretch before exit. Had to play it off and act casual.”
